currently 550, and would like to be 650 by 2008. i have no credit cards or car to build credit. someone recommended getting a secure card, but i%26#039;m not exactly sure what it my intitle. any advise.

contact your bank and get a secured card for as little as 300$ savings account. charge no more than 50% of balance and make double the min payments in 3-6 months you will hgave a credit history then go to aspire or capital one and get an unsecured card (or reapply at your bank for unsecured)

A secured card is one you pay in advance with your own money. Credit cards or auto%26#039;s are pretty much the only way to establish credit. Do you have a cell phone, if goes on your credit, just pay it on time everytime. Thats all you can do, just wait and it will go higher. By 2008 your score should be there, maybe even before then. Do a search on secured credit cards. My first credit card was at a clothes store. Try there. I would get a card and just leave it open.

It won%26#039;t actually increase your score (but neither will having lots of credit cards, even if you have available balances) but save as much as you are able. When you do go to apply for a home loan (the only kind you should EVER consider), the lender will consider BOTH your credit history AND your bank balances. If you have gobs of money in the bank, the lender will see that you are able to manage your money well and you%26#039;ll get a preferred rate.
Do this and you%26#039;ll be better off than 75% of Americans.
BTW - two years is PLENTY of time to improve you score.
